Surgery went well.

We all got up at 3:30 am this morning and hit the road around 4am to Billings. The hospital there is really amazing and the people were great. They have this huge atrium at the admitting desk. Emmett just loved the trout display! They took us right back and got things rolling. His gown was pretty cute- koalas in space- and just his size. They gave him crayons, a coloring book, sunglasses and a bunch of stickers to occupy his time. LOVES the stickers we discovered. Emmett has taken quite a few doses of antibiotics and takes them like a champ. When they brought in the "woozy" meds, he was thrown for a loop that they went up his nose! He had his mouth open and everything. He quickly became "drunk" and a happy one at that. He waved and hollered at every nurse, doctor and patient that came by. Most were courteous and waved back. The doc and the scrub techs then came and took him back for sedation and sent us to the waiting room. 25 mins later Dr. Price came in and rushed us down to meet Emmett in recovery. I guess he woke up pretty quick but in a panic. He was screaming and wailing when we got to him. Probably the hardest part of our day. He didn't know where he was and seemed just terrified. Once he calmed down, he fell asleep in my arms for a bit and recovered. I guess his right ear is really infected(the one from last week...still!) and he is on antibiotic ear drops that burn when we put them in(horrible) and another round of oral antibiotics. All in all, everything went really well today and we are on our way to healthy ears!

$2.49!?

It is so good to see gas at $2.49. It sure makes trip back home so much more affordable. I filled up for our trip to Billings tomorrow and it was less than $50!!! We leave for Billings in 8 hours to make sure we are checked in at 6 am for Emmett's surgery. He goes under at 7:20am and should be done and leaving the hospital by 9am. It should be pretty quick and painless, but will seem like hours!

He loves to wear his sunglasses lately. Does not want to take them off. He wears them while eating, playing, in the car, everything but bathtime!
My parents are now home from their long vacation and had sent Emmett a care package of all the things they collected for him along the way. They found great deals at a Children's Place in the Northeast and also got him some really hilarious skunk slippers. He does not take them off. He even gets close to saying skunk! Mom say's they're for the "little stinker". I agree with the stinker part.
Time to watch some shows and head to bed!
He is feeding puppy lunch

Halloween Party

We attended the Rec Center Halloween Party last night. It was fun for the kiddos! The entire gym was decorated for games and music and they also had a room just for the toddlers. There were lots of great costumes and our friend Yvonne's kids won first place for the costume contest. She dressed her little boy as McCain and her daughter as Palin(she borrowed Emmett's suit jacket for her costume!). They were pretty cute. Courtney and her girls were there as well. Darby was a bee and Cooper was a fuzzy chicken. There were lady bugs, a golfer, a hobbit, another cute dino, and a very cute witch in the toddler room as well. Emmett's costume was a red dinosaur (wearing blue tennis shoes). He was pretty cute and even growled from time to time. We stayed out a bit late and Emmett was pooped. It sure made for a nice quiet night at home on a friday evening.

Whew! What a week!

So we had Dayven visit on Sunday. It was a great time, not long enough but we got plenty of food and sports in while he was here. Later on in the week, Layla came over to play while Jessica headed off to work. I am watching her girls while Jessica's mom is recovering from surgery. Layla is such a doll and she and Emmett play so well together. I cleaned out Emmett's closet and found some toys that I had put up til he was older. One of them is an old toy of mine and my siblings. It is a turtle on a string that bobs his head when you pull him across the floor. Emmett just laughs and runs with the turtle. Some much fun to watch!

Then there was last night. Luke was out to dinner with an old friend in the insurance biz. Emmett went to bed as usual. until he woke up screaming. You would have thought there was an ax murderer in his crib with him. There was no consoling this child. Luke got called home from his nice night out and we went to the ER. Another darn ear infection, and only a week away from having the tubes put in! So now, he is on a numbing ear drop and antibiotics til surgery. Wednesday can not come soon enough.

Here comes Dayven!

Dayven is on his way to stay for the night, on his way home to Edmonton from Denver. We are excited to get to see him and to cook some ribs to enjoy while watching football.
Yesterday, was gorgeous weather! We got together with some friends and got the kids to the park for one last play with no coat on! It is supposed to rain with possible rain/snow mix later this week....as it always does for upcoming Halloween fun. I can't remember a Halloween that it was nice weather, even as a kid. Looking forward to the activities this year, cold or not. I think Emmett will really enjoy his "first" Halloween experience.

Congrats are in order!

I want to send out a huge congrats to my newly married friends the Kilcreases'!!! Emily and Charles are having a baby! and it's gonna have pigtails! Congratulations to you and your families! We can't wait to meet her.

Snow pictures

I was just watching the Bronco game and across the bottom of the screen were snow alerts and announcements. The small ski town about an hour north of here, Red Lodge, received 40 inches of snow in the last 24 hours! and they said Billings was between 22 and 30 inches. Cody did not get that much snow but we have some good size snow drifts in the front and back of the house. We have been in comfy pants and wrapped in blankets for 2 days now. Good thing we had a fully stocked wine/beer fridge!
I took this picture early this morning. Most of our windows are loaded with snow from the continuing snowfall and winds that keep gusting.

Emmett wrapped up in blankets, probably watching a.m. cartoons!

This is Emmett's new toy handed down to him from my friend, Yvonne. He hasn't gotten off the darn thing except to grab a snack or sleep!

Still snowing....

It is absolutely gorgeous out today. The snow is falling, gusty winds at times, but it makes for a great weekend inside looking outside! We are wishing for our hot tub! Maybe by this time next year.....

My friend Yvonne took this picture of Emmett and I. We visited them yesterday for a birthday party for her son Keith who turns 3 today.

First snow of the season

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love the snow. We finally got our first snowfall of the year. The yard looks so pretty covered with snow. It makes me forget that it is nothing but weeds! Luke took Emmett out last night to catch snowflakes. It was too cute! Emmett loved it. I think he understands it more than last year and it should be a blast this winter.

Pumpkin Patch

We finally made it to the pumpkin patch...and just in time! It started snowing this morning. We were fortunate enough to have made thru the pumpkin patch with just cold weather and no precipitation! Courtney and Amy and their girls along with Emmett and I, went to the Straw Igloo Gardens. They have tons of fresh produce and eggs to pick and purchase. They had a nice size pumpkin patch(for the small town). I think the kids enjoyed themselves, except for the cold. We then went to lunch at the McDonalds in town and let the kids play in the gym attachment thingy. Their feet were pretty dirty by the time we left, but they had a ball!! Definately wore Emmett out for the ride home. Now it has begun to snow and is supposed to continue thru the weekend. Great time to make a batch of soup. We are going to try Paula Dean's Chicken poblano stew for dinner tonight and a beer cheese soup on Saturday. Tis the season for soup!

Emmett has learned that he can push one of the chairs up to the window and not just look out. He can stand on the window sill and look out. Scares me to death when I catch him, but had to document the moment for you all to see! Then I ran over and disciplined. It doesn't matter though. He just goes right back and tries it again later. One of these times he'll learn. I just hope it doesn't constitute a trip to the ER.

Did you "ear" the news?

We drove to Billings this morning to first play at Target and then on to a doc appt at Billings Clinic with Dr Scott Price. Seems like a nice man and I checked him out with my neighbor Ted, who works up at Billings Clinic. Ted says he is one of the best ENT docs there. Anyway, Dr Price had alot to explain and he did so very well. I am fully convinced that we are making the right decision to have the tubes put in Emmett's ears. Emmett will be going in for the out patient surgery on Wednesday, October 29th very early in the morning. It should be pretty quick and painless. Emmett hated having his ears checked today. They put probes in his ears to take pictures and also to measure the soundwaves made by the movement of his eardrums(or something like that...I'm not an audiologist ya know! My friend Jenny majored in Audiology..maybe she knows?) Anyway, he was a pretty good boy today all things considered. I really stretched the limit with Target and Costco...I think he was so relieved to be home. I let him play in the dirt while I carried the boxes from Costco in the house. The little boy was in heaven(good thing cause we've got lots of dirt!).

Oh! I almost forgot..... I found blue crayon all over the dining room(into the living room) walls. I didn't catch him doing it so I could not punish him.......thank goodness for the Mr Clean magic eraser. I am not sure if you can see the crayon in the picture.....
So I decided to watch part of the VP debates. I had to stop. I could not take Palin any longer. She never seemed to answer any of the questions and I found myself thinking of Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago. It was a really great impression and pretty dead on. If the old fart should kick the bucket, I would not want Palin to run the country. That's what I got from the minuscule portion that I watched and regret that I will never get that time back. I could have read the entire new Martha Stewart magazine that I got today...

Care package from Grandma

This morning we had another MOPS meeting. The meetings are really nice to be able to get together with other women and catch up with the outside world. Our table was in charge of bringing food and I took a recipe that my mom sent me. She found it in her newspaper and it is from one of the B&B's here in Cody. It was pretty good, but needed green chilies instead of green peppers(darn food polluters!(a tiny shout out to Nina!)).

Luke is in Casper for a few days for one of his last insurance courses. Glad this is it for awhile. I don't like the single momhood thing! At least E and I have a busy schedule while he is away. We are heading up to Billings for a consult with the ENT doc tomorrow. We will see what he has to say and when they want to proceed. and of course, Target! Can't wait to see what civilization is shopping for these days.

Grandma sent a care package in the mail this week. Lots of fun Halloween stuff. Thanks for thinking of us! The glasses are the best....
