Always something new

Emmett sure is a funny kid! He is starting to imitate and chatter all the time. His new thing is spitting. Watch the video and see what I mean. We had dinner with Tammy, Mike and Caleb the other night. Mike made pizza here at our house. The kids played and had a good time. It was nice to spend some time with other adults as well.

Fun Birthday

31 feels good. Happy, healthy and lots of friends and family. I planted this amaryllis a few weeks ago and it bloomed on my birthday. Very pretty and a great gift to myself!
My folks just left this morning. That is always hard when they leave. Watching them drive off gets me a little teary. They watched Emmett so Luke and I could have a fun dinner/drinks out on the town. Dad even dropped us off and picked us up, so there was no driving needed from either of us! Thank God, cause I haven't seen the inside of a bar in a long time....Mexi Margaritas are very strong and Luke and I split a pitcher! I think we stayed out until 9pm. Yes, that's it. It was a great time and I truly wanted to get home and check on Emmett. I know he was fine, but had to see for myself. I'm sure that gets easier?! Anyway, we had a great weekend of food, drink and lots of cards. Mom and I deserve a re-match!
My parents came up a few days early to head up to Bozeman, MT to trade in their 5th wheel camper for a motor home. (I meant to take pics and never got around to it.) It is very nice and spacious with ALL the amenities. Should be fun for their long vacations they like to take. Speaking of parents buying toys......Mark and Deb just bought a new boat at the lake. It is a very nice boat, much bigger than their other boat. Can't wait to enjoy it this summer!
We had a really big storm move in this morning. Lots of wind, but not much snow. Very ominous looking though.

Sledding in the cold

Tammy, Caleb, E and I went sledding today. Caleb has a plastic sled that he and Emmett rode while Tammy or I pulled around. Sledding is always fun except that it is really cold....I don't like being cold. Tammy handed down a nice winter coat and boots for Emmett to wear this winter. Thanks for that! I can hardly bear to spend the money for a coat that he'll grow out of in another month. Enjoy the pics!

Caught in the act

Finally! I caught E in the closet swinging on Daddy's pants. He does this quite often but I never have the camera ready. He bangs his head and laughs hysterically. For some reason it is incredibly fun for him. You will also notice at the end of the video that he takes about 4 steps unassisted! We're getting close.

New things

Emmett has mastered the art of "no". He now shakes his head from side to side when you say no. Then he laughs. Little stinker. We almost have "hi" down with a wave. I think he picked up a few things when our friend Tammy and her son Caleb came over for dinner the other night. Mike was away on a biz trip so we had a play date/dinner. Caleb is a very well behaved kiddo and plays well with E, even though E is not so good with sharing...still. He'll learn, we hope. Tammy has invited us sledding this week. We'll see if the minus degree temps subside before some winter time fun.
By the way, we are entering the ending stages of the basement finish. Drywall is going up and then texture. While this is happening I may not have Blog access. I will be back......with lots o pics!

Always into trouble...

SO... the latest trouble that E has found is the kithen trash. It pulls out from the under the counter top. Great and really convienent, right? Not so much. Emmett has figured out how to how the "drawer" and now crawls behind the trash can. (See Photo!) Poor Luke. I yelled OMG and he came running thinking E was hurt. Nope, I was was just really suprised when I realized that Emmett had a new game/hiding spot.

He has also taking up blogging. He loves the computer being out in the open where he can play with it.
Speaking of trouble, I just had to pick up a plant that he pulled off the stand. Dirt and leaves everywhere. I didn't realze he could reach it. Always something.......

Out for a while

Sorry all. I have not been feeling well the past few days. I am back on track and ready to update. Emmett is feeling better, bratty and spoiled as usual. He does not like to have things taken away from him, even when the nightlight he pulled from the wall is in his mouth.

The electricians have finally arrived and should be finished today!!! Yea!!! I am ready for the dust, exposed drywall and noise to be finished. We had a wall cut open for a doorway in between the dining room and the kitchen/living room. Emmett loves to pick at and eat the pieces of exposed drywall. Can't wait til Monday when it should be framed and covered! Not sure how much he ate....sure made a huge mess. Luke had a bar built in the basement to his liking. they even included space for a wine fridge! Should come in handy don't you think? Anyway the majority of the basement should be finished by next week if the stay on schedule.

Just in time for my folks to arrive! They are coming up on Wednesday and staying thru the weekend. Luke and I finally get a night away to enjoy adult dinner and drinks since Grammy and Grandpa agreed to watch him for the evening. YEA! Thanks in advance.

We have started taking Emmett to the pool on weekends. He was overly enjoying his time in the tub, so we thought he might need to blow off some steam. He loves to splash and kick, but he never closes his mouth. He probably drinks half the pool. I get to take him to the next swim tots class at the end of March. Should be pretty fun.
Speaking of March.... Emmett's first birthday! We will be home for a few days and are having a party at the Shack in Littleton. I have reserved the back room at the Shack on March 15th from 1-4pm, come and go as you please. Tv's for the fellows to watch March Madness, and cake and snacks for kids and friends. All are invited. Please put us on your calendars! I will send out more info closer to time.

Long few days

Emmett has been sick the past few days and driving Luke and I nuts!!!! Emmett now has a nasty cough and runny nose, along with the ear infection. He has been so needy and whiny.....more kids?! not sure at this point. Ask me when Emmett feels better and I have sobered up! The nice thing is that he and I hung out in our PJ's all day. Who doesn't love that? Hopefully E is on the mend. Feel better baby!

More pictures!

As promised and requested(thanks Donna!) Enjoy!

Welcome 2008!

The second half our trip proved to be an eventful one. When leaving my parent's house in Loveland, it seems that we misplaced the keys to the Canales household and had no way to get into their house to feed their cat Scratch and we were going to stay there til they got back from Texas. They so graciously overnighted an another key, on Christmas eve no less, to Mark and Deb's house in Colorado Springs.(It turns out that I lost the keys. My mom just found them in her coat pocket, which I borrowed to keep warm while unloading our car)

We had a wonderful time in the Springs. Luke, Emmett and I met up with Deb, Amy and Mark at the Golden Bee outside the Broadmoor Hotel for lunch. This has become quite the tradition for us all. It is a great little spot for a glass of wine, a yard of beer and wonderful soup. Unfortunately, Mark had to return to work, but the rest of us took a walk around the lake at the Broadmoor. It was such a nice day that we had a drink on the patio outside the Hotel. It was a nice sunny way to finish our lunch tradition. We headed back to the homestead to relax and start making dinner. Emmett got to open one gift on Christmas eve. He sure was excited, but not as excited as Luke to put together his first of many
of Emmett's new toys. Emmett was just as excited the next morning when he took his first trip around his new music table. The music table has sure gotten him really close to walking(he actually took his first two steps on January 3rd!). We all proceeded to enjoy opening gifts and spending time together, along with eating yummy treats put together by Deb. The cousins called and we headed over to see their new loot left by Santa. Max got a new red bike and Liz got a microphone to sing along with the High School Musical kids and Hanna Montana. It was great to spend time with Matt and Becky and the kids(we can't wait to go camping with you all!).

The holiday seemed to pass quickly but looking forward to a new year. We ended our trip slightly early, due to a fussy kid and my sanity. It turned out to be a great decision: one-due to a storm that moved in the day we left and two- it turns out Emmett had/has an ear infection. Everyone is on the mend and recovering from the long trip.
If you are wondering, I have set up a makeshift desk in the middle of our living room to connect to the internet while the basement is still being worked on. They have almost finished the framing and we are waiting on the bid from the electrician before the drywall gets started. We probably have another month or two til it is done, and even then we still have to put down flooring and finish the bathroom. Those might get done by the end of the year. Carpet is expensive!
Congrats to our friends Emily and Charles! Charles proposed on Christmas Eve and they are planning a fall wedding. (and thanks for the pony....clippity clop, clippity clop. see video to follow) Happy new year to all!

back soon

Luke, Emmett and I have returned home safely and to our basement being finished! Yea to more space! In the meantime, I have no internet connection at home to continually blog. I will be able to attach pics and more stories once I get up and going, and the electrician finally gets here. Right now I am blogging at Luke's work! I will update as I can. We loved seeing you all and really missed seeing some of you....We will be back in March to party it up for E's 1st birthday!
